Training
We want Takatāpui and Rainbow folks to be safe and welcome every time they access any kind of support.
That’s why we offer training and cultural supervision for all those working with Takatāpui and Rainbow people, of all ages. Our training is useful for kaimahi working in specialist services, but also policy makers, service managers and everyone interested in understanding more about how family violence, sexual violence and elder abuse impact us, and what changes can be made to improve the service we receive.

Rainbow Safe – in person
We offer interactive, one-day Rainbow Safe workshops for community networks or individual agencies, co-facilitated by experienced Takatāpui and Tauiwi trainers.
Our training will help you to provide safer places for our communities to ask for help. Recognising assumptions your service may be making will help shift practices which may be barriers for Takatāpui and Rainbow survivors. Learning more about the ways violence may be unique or different for us is important to becoming a Rainbow Safe service.

Te kete koha | communities of practice
We offer a monthly online wānanga on research, emerging issues or developing best practice for violence prevention in Takatāpui and Rainbow communities.
After attending our in-person or online training, Te Kete Koha is available for one year for you to explore your own practice with other professionals. Professional Development certificates of attendance are available after twelve months.

Rainbow Safe – online
Our online training was developed in collaboration with MEDSAC (Medical Sexual Assault Clinicians Aotearoa), who share our commitment to safe services for Takatāpui and Rainbow survivors.
The interactive module is 2 hours long, and you can work through it at a time and place that suits you.
The content is New Zealand specific, based on victim-survivor experiences and requests for help and support that we get from practitioners from all kinds of services, and up-to-date with research in Aotearoa.

Rainbow Ready – in person
Tukua kia tū takitahi ngā whetū o te rangi – Let each star stand out clearly and be seen!
For organisations that provide support or aged care services for older people, we offer interactive, one-day Rainbow Ready workshops, co-facilitated by experienced Takatāpui and Tauiwi trainers.
Rainbow Ready is praxis and systems training, designed to create deeper understanding about the lives of Takatāpui and Rainbow elders. It will help you create services in which Takatāpui and Rainbow older people feel safe to be their authentic selves.

Rainbow Ready – preventing elder abuse
This interactive, online module is for those who work with older people, including in aged care, healthcare or social services. The module covers who older Takatāpui and Rainbow people are, what elder abuse includes, and the specific ways in which elder abuse is experienced in Takatāpui and Rainbow communities.
The module features quotes, audio clips and short videos with older Takatāpui and Rainbow people.
